As a busy summer of sport comes to an end, the news that Glasgow will welcome the return in 2026 of The Commonwealth Games.
The games were scheduled to take place to the Australian state of Victoria, but they withdrew due to rising costs, however it will be a scaled down version, featuring just 10 sports, returning to Scotland 12 years after last hosting the games.
The compulsory sports of athletics and swimming will be held at Scotstoun Stadium, and Tollcross International Swimming centre with additional venues, and dates for the events, yet to be confirmed.
It's likely there will be no marathon or road cycling, mountain biking or shooting events, there will be no athletes village back, in 2014 there was a purpose built set up, after the games they were sold off for social housing.
There will of course be a opening and closing ceremony, its to but early but it is principal stadium is Scotstoun so the opening event is likely to be there.
Scotland has now hosted the games three times, Edinburgh in 1970, 1986 and Glasgow in 2014, at the games in 2014 nearly 5,000 athletes from 71 countries competed.

It make sense that the games return to Glasgow as we have the infrastructure in place from 2014, I was lucky enough to attend some of those events, visiting the city it was a great atmosphere, most importantly the sun was out during the games we can only hope for next time.
Recently Glasgow has played a big part in holding events, like COP 26, UCI Cycling World Championships, Billie Jean King Tennis Cup , and the Scottish Badminton Championships to name a few.
This year Glasgow held the World Athletics Indoor Championships in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, I attended and what a great venue to hold a top class event. It's not just sporting events Glasgow played host to the MTV and EMA's.
Glasgow is a welcoming city, even for scaled down games, I'm looking forward to seeing the games back in Glasgow, hope to get to some events and just maybe we'll get good weather.
