Paralympics GB success




Each Paralympics leave a legacy , Paris will go down in history as one of the most ground-breaking and outstanding.


21 athletes from Scotland were selected to represent Team GB, that's 9% of the team of 215 in total in the squad from athletes making their debut to athletes competing for a long time still reaching for gold.


Scots Stephen Clegg won in the pool in men's 100m backstroke S12, also set a new world record on way to claiming the title.


Another athlete making her debut was Faye Rogers in swimming women's 100m butterfly S10, she took gold.


In Boccia Stephen McGuire won his first ever Paralympic gold in men's individual BC4, he's z been chasing this dream for 20 years and finally got it.


On the track Sammi Kinghorn can finally call herself a Paralympic champion

as she won the women's 100m T53.


Also on the track Ben Sandilands made quite the debut, as he won gold the T20 1500m and set a new world record.


In Para Canoe ,also her debut, an overwhelmed Hope Gordon won a silver medal . In Wheelchair Tennis Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewitt won the double to take the gold.


The opening ceremony saw athletes parade through the iconic Avenue des Champs Elysees to Place de la Concorde, 65,000 fans got to see this historic moment, highlighting what the host city is doing around accessibility and inclusivity.


This was the first games since the pandemic, Tokyo 2020 lost that atmosphere and colour.


4,000 athletes from around the world competed in 549 medals events showcasing 22 sports. No new sports this year, however Badminton and Taekwondo programme was expanded and there is a record number of women medal events for women.


The increased profile of the games has meant a gradual rise in the numbers of nations getting involved in para sport, three more countries made they debut Eritrea, Kiribati and Kosovo.


Paralympics legacy begin in Rome,Italy in 1960 featuring just 400 athletes from 23 countries.


Channel 4 continued their own legacy of excellent coverage from Paris for the Paralympics, this year the games was the biggest ever broadcast on the channel with more then 1,300 hours of live sports, also free to air across More 4, streaming platform and their YouTube channel.


In a first for the channel their remote gallery and production team were based in Cardiff, they built a new state of the art facility to house around 200 people working on the coverage, including 16 disabled people from the production trainee scheme, after the games it is hoped the fully accessible hub will leave a lasting legacy.


Team GB finished second in the medal table with 124 medals,41 of those gold,topping off a fantastic return to a packed out games.
